Red Shafted Flicker

A flock of fluffy flickers fled the flummoxed Flemish florist.

What caught my eye: On a gray spring day we saw a flash of red that was the underside of its wing. It fed its chick while we waited for it to fly away so we could capture it in flight, but it was sneaky and waited until we heard the call of another flicker. As we turned to look, it fled.
